Some examples of DAC activities for this year:

In Mali – Plan and regional Rap Network AURA, engaged for African Unity and Child Protection organize a Mega Concert in Bamako under the theme “Children have the right to participate”.

Children from partnering communities will also organize public events to inform adults and peers about their rights and to simply celebrate.

In Togo – King Messan, the most popular musician of the coastal country – meet with children and youth to discuss around rights and protection. The event will be broadcast to ensure broader reach amongst children and adults.

In neighboring Benin, children will organize peaceful manifestations to inform about their rights. Schools in partner communities are organizing a competition on Child Rights on 15th June with winners being primed publicly on the Day of the African Child Ceremony the following day. The same day, children clubs organize drama and theater competitions. In the evening, public debates with municipal decision makers and resource people for child rights issues will be held at municipal level.

In Burkina Faso the area of Zorgho will see an important public event to celebrate the day, organized by the national Child Rights Network. Children from Partner Communities and Plan staff will be present. Other activities include a football competition, UBR mobilization events and cultural activities at community level.

In Cameroon Plan supports in its program areas the electoral process for the national children’s parliament. Child Media clubs organize public debates on the topic of Child Participation. And the radio project is also organizing broadcasts to report on the electoral proceedings and lessons learnt by the young voters from the process.
